“Unacceptable” failure to provide psychology courses in Welsh

Concerns have been raised over the failure of Qualifications Wales to make arrangements to deliver GCSE economics and psychology courses through the medium of Welsh.

Shadow Education Secretary, Darren Millar AM, said:

“Wales is a bilingual nation and learners should be afforded the choice to undertake their GCSE courses and exams in the language of their choice.

“It is unacceptable that Qualifications Wales have failed to ensure that courses such as economics and psychology are not available in the Welsh language. They have known about this situation for some time and should have worked with an examination board to make alternative arrangements.

“The Welsh Government should look carefully at the way in which this new organisation is working to ensure that it meets the expectations of learners.”
