Action for Children’s Positive Outcome Play Services project (POPS) service in Briton Ferry has been boosted by a donation of £2100 from Tata Steel.

POPS provides short breaks for children and young people with disabilities within the community or in the child’s home, providing them with opportunities to make new friends and enjoy different experiences as well as offering respite to families or full time carers.

Nia Singleton, Tata Steel’s Community Liaison Manager in Wales, said: “We are so pleased to be able to donate this money to the POPS service in Neath & Port Talbot. Our corporate giving strategy is strongly geared towards donating to local charities and services particularly those involving children and young people. The work Action for Children do in this area is wonderful, providing not only respite for parents but also fun and safe activities for the children and young people in their after school club and during school holidays that is tailored to their needs which is so important. It’s great to hear about how the donation will be put to good use in our local community”

Lian Boden, children’s services practitioner at POPS, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to receive this money. We do community sessions and groups in the evenings and at weekends but the this additional money we have now means we can do some additional trips such as Folly Farm in the summer holidays. There’s also an overnight trip to Llangranog coming up so we’ll use the money to make sure all the children of varying ages don’t miss out. We’re thrilled Tata have provided us with this money, it underlines the importance of the work we do in the community and I’d like to thank Nia and all those from Tata that made this happen.”
