Police ask public for thoughts and concerns as they aim to make Llanelli safer

Police officers in Llanelli town are launching an initiative aimed at tackling the problems which impact on residents in the most troublesome areas.

Violent and volume crime, anti-social behaviour, substance misuse and partnership working will be the focus for beat officers, neighbourhood police and detectives working in areas like Station Road and North Dock.

But before the initiative gets underway, they’re hoping to gather the thoughts and opinions of people living in these areas as a means of gauging the communities’ needs and concerns.

“The Safer Llanelli Initiative is about bringing all of our Police resources together and working with partners to really focus our attention into those issues that most concern the people in our local communities. And then of equal importance is telling the public regularly what we’re doing to improve things”, said Detective Inspector Gary Phillips who is leading the initiative.

“This isn’t to say that good work isn’t already happening. It is. But this initiative will give us a structure to work within and a coordinated approach which will address the things that matter most to the people who live in these areas.

“But before we can get started we need to know exactly how people feel about crime levels in these localities now.

“The questionnaire will be asking for information on what kind of crimes people are seeing in specific areas and what their greatest concerns are.

“We’ll want to know if they’re reporting everything to us, and if not, why?

“And most importantly we’ll be asking them for their perception of how safe their neighbourhoods are”.

“The information from the questionnaire will be of vital importance in helping us focus our attention into the areas that need our help the most. So I urge people living in Llanelli Town to please complete the questionnaire that will only take a short time to complete.”

The questionnaire, which is in English, Welsh and Polish, will be available to fill in online at our website www.dyfed-powys.police.uk/haveyoursay . Households who aren’t able to access the internet but would still like to fill out the questionnaire can do so by contacting Llanelli police on 101.
