Carmarthenshire Markets are once again taking part in the high profile, Love your Local Market 2016 campaign.
The two-week campaign, led by the National Association of British Market Authorities, on May 17-31, is all about attracting new market traders and also highlights the importance that markets play in the heart of the local community, not only for retail but also as a valuable community asset and a focal point for many town centres.
To mark this year’s event Carmarthenshire County Council, which owns and runs the markets in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford, Llandovery and Llandeilo, launches its successful Carmarthenshire Young Traders competition for pupils from primary schools across the county. Youngsters from eight schools will be competing against each other by developing a business idea and turning it into a profitable enterprise. The competition will be split into two areas and held at Carmarthen Market on Wednesday, June 28 and Llanelli Outdoor Market on Thursday, July 6 from 10am-2pm.

The sessions, delivered by the council’s sport and leisure team, are about getting children active through books. The council’s county markets manager, Amanda Davies, said: “The Love Your Local Market campaign demonstrates how important the market is to the local community and a great starting point into the world for business for young entrepreneurs. We are thrilled to be holding our popular Carmarthenshire Young Traders competition which is an excellent opportunity for children to gain first-hand experience of what it’s like to set up and run their own business. New for this year is our Actif Storytime sessions which we also plan to run throughout the summer holidays.”
