VISITORS to the Royal Welsh Show’s Carmarthenshire marquee can step into the future with the Swansea Bay City Region.

Meet robots Baxter and Nao, learn to code through games, take part in a radio workshop and brush up on your filming skills on day three of the agricultural show at the county council marquee.

As this year’s host county, Carmarthenshire will have a range of activities and events throughout the week.

On the Wednesday, visitors can find out more about the landmark £1.3billion Swansea Bay City Deal and how it will transform the economic landscape of the area.

The Wellness and Life Science Village at Delta Lakes in Llanelli aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people across the region, creating up to 2000 high quality, well paid jobs and boosting the economy by a staggering £467 million over 15 years. Visitors will be able to see the £200million-plus project brought to life in a fly-through video of the village created using 3D modelling software and Google Earth technology.

Yr Egin will see the construction of a new, creative, digital and media hub in Carmarthen, providing start up and development space for creative and digital companies. It will create more than 200 jobs and help the local economy, along with boosting the Welsh language. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David will unveil a new 3D model of the building at the show.

The City Deal is also supporting a skills and talent initiative which will provide education and training to support the next generation workforce delivering specific sector skills in the fields of energy, smart manufacturing, digital innovation and life science.

Council Leader Emlyn Dole said: “This is a perfect opportunity for us to show how the City Deal will provide new and exciting opportunities for everyone, increasing prosperity, creating new jobs, facilitating growth as well as focusing on training and skills.

“There will be lots to see and do at the council marquee with a specific focus on technology; I am particularly looking forward to seeing the robots from Swansea University, we will also have a coding workshop for young people, and Yr Egin will be looking at the difference between filming with broadcast cameras and DSLRs.”

Clwb Actif mascots and characters from S4C’s Cyw will also be visiting the council marquee on Wednesday.

The Royal Welsh Show is being held between July 24 and 27 at the showground in Llanelwedd.
