Thought for the week from the Rev David Jones (we 7th October 2012)

The conference season is well under way with the Labour party meeting at Manchester this week.

Mr. Milliband will, no doubt, be rallying the faithful to build on what is already an impressive lead in the polls. The Liberal Democrats left Brighton with renewed optimism and the Prime Minister will be seeking to relieve the emerging tensions in the Conservative party in Birmingham next week.

The Bible has much to say about those who rule and govern.

The prophets of the Old Testament did not spare their words of condemnation towards those who ruled unjustly in their day. When the nation wanted a king God chose a simple shepherd boy to replace the tired and discredited Saul.

Despite his youth and inexperience David became the king most beloved by God and the people.

Let’s hope that all the potential and promise we have already and will hear during this conference season will filter down so that the needs of the people will be met.

There can be no greater council for those who seek to lead and govern that which the word of God gives.

“Righteousness upholds a nation” and that greater command of Jesus “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’ With that advice on board then there will be a new impetus of care and justice that will give us the hospitals, schools and public services we deserve.
