Llanelli’s Christmas has Santas by the sackful
CHRISTMAS explodes like a glitter bomb over Llanelli over the weekend beginning November 19th.
It will have carnival colour, fireworks fizz and santas by the sackful for three days to herald the festive season.
The traditional carnival which has been attracting crowds of more than 20,000 to the town centre for more than 30 years starts the festive fun and frolics on a Friday night.
Rolling the festivities into the town’s streets into Saturday there is a Christmas Crafts Fayre in Stepney street with many of the county’s craft centres bringing their Christmas gift opportunities for shoppers to browse.
Santa’s Caingorm Reindeer, courtesy of the St Elli Shopping Centre, jingle into Llanelli to herald Christmas Sunday (Nov 21st) with a street procession through the town from Gelli Onn at 2pm into Stepney Street and the entrance to the shopping precinct.
There will be children’s fairground rides and Scarlet FM radio broadcasting from noon ‘til 4pm.
It all makes for a breathtaking weekend of Christmas jollity which will get everyone in the festive season mood.
Llanelli’s Round Table Christmas Carnival parade and lights switch-on and fireworks display with street entertainment on the Friday is set to be more secular than ever. This year it is hosted by Llanelli Town Council and Round Table Chairman chairman Craig Toutt said there had been a wonderful response from those wanting to organise floats this year and he was optimistic there could be record numbers entering this year.
He said: “We have had had so many people showing an interest from an early stage the carnival is going to bigger and better this year.”
There will be the traditional carol singing and the Santa Dash featuring more than 40 Santas chasing through the town raising money for Llanelli Hospice this year will be a hilarious affair.
Llanelli Scarlets will be mingling in the crowd too signing autographs and joining in the fun.
The heavens above the Town Centre will once again be spangled with exploding fireworks form 15 minutes from 7.30pm mark and the organisers this year will ensure than there is teenage dance entertainment in the streets which proved so popular last year.
There is a flaming fiesta flavour to the carnival with fire entertainers in the street warming up the atmosphere.
County executive board member for regeneration and leisure, said: “This will be a great weekend for Llanelli families. It is a great way of getting the Christmas celebrations underway whilst drawing people to the town centre where they can enjoy the local shops and restaurants.”
