COMMUNITY groups and organisations are being urged to adopt a local recycling site – and earn some money at the same time.
The council is looking for help to set up and run new or existing recycling banks in the county.
Community groups, clubs and not-for-profit organisations are needed to help manage the growing number of recycling sites.
They would help to keep the area clean and tidy, report any problems, notify the council if the recycling bins are full and help to raise awareness.
The group will also receive a one-off payment to be used for the benefit of the local community.
A number of community groups have already adopted a local recycling site including the committee of the memorial hall in Llanpumsaint. The recycling banks are situated in the hall car park.
Chairman Arwel Nicholas said: “The recycling site is very well used by the community and it works very well for us as we receive an annual payment for keeping an eye on things which goes towards the upkeep of the hall.”
This project is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
Executive Board Member for Street Scene Cllr Colin Evans said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle their rubbish and we now have more than 160 recycling sites across Carmarthenshire.
“We would like communities to help us to run these sites and also come forward with any suggestions for new sites. In return they will receive money for the benefit of the area.
“We hope this scheme will help us to reduce the amount we send to landfill and recycle more.”
