New chorus of voices in council chamber
WEDNESDAY’S full council had a rather unusual tone, with a fresh chorus of voices echoing around the chamber.
Côr Merched Sir Gâr, fresh from representing Wales at the Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017, entertained councillors with a rendition of songs mid-way through the council meeting.
Made up of 42 singers from around the county, the choir came second out of nice countries when it took part in the international competition in Latvia earlier this year.
The choir, run by Carmarthenshire Music Service, had previously won the Cor Cymru competition.
They filled the council’s public gallery to sing to councillors, their performance being broadcast live as part of the council’s webcast of the full council meeting.
Chair of the council, Cllr Irfon Jones, took the opportunity to present the choir with the trophy they brought home from Latvia.
Cllr Emlyn Dole, leader of the council, said: “What you have done is remarkable. Your success is something we all take great pride in.”
