PARKING spaces at Carmarthen’s St Peter’s Car Park have been brought back into use following completion of work to renew the town football club’s pitch.

A number of parking spaces were fenced off whilst the work was carried out to provide a safe environment for pedestrians and motorists.

Carmarthen Town AFC is benefitting from a new 3G all-weather pitch, which was installed over the summer.

The club’s location next to the busy town centre car park meant a huge engineering feat to ensure minimum impact on visitors and shoppers, as well as the health and safety of everyone involved.

Small sections of the car park which are used less were fenced off to ensure that lorries carrying around 6,000 tonnes of earth and stone along with heavy plant could be moved on and off site safely.

The pitch is part of a community scheme that will benefit hundreds of people in Carmarthen and surrounding areas.

The community project will benefit young people from across the town and will be used by primary schools, a special needs unit, family centres, youth clubs and University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD). The pitch is also suitable for disabled sport with accessible changing rooms and a community learning centre.
