New Gorslas school plans to be unveiled
PLANS for a new school in Gorslas will be unveiled at a drop-in consultation event in the village.
Carmarthenshire County Council wants to build a new school to replace the current building, creating more spaces for primary aged children, and including space for an external nursery.
Proposals include a multi-use games area, sports field and a school hall that can be shared with the local community.
A new building would help meet the demand for Welsh medium education places within the area and would cater for the rising number of pupils wanting to attend the school.
It is planned as part of a £250million Modernising Education Programme (MEP), funded by the council with support from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools initiative.
A drop-in consultation session will be held at St Lleian’s Church Hall, Church Road, on Wednesday October 18, from 3-7pm.
People will be able to view the plans, take part in discussions with officers, ask questions and provide comments on the proposed development.
Cllr Glynog Davies, executive board member for education, said: “The community of Gorslas needs a new school and we’re pleased to be able to present plans to show people how we’d like to invest in new, modern, facilities for local children.
“We want to be able to provide an environment that supports the highest quality of teaching and learning, and at Gorslas we are also keen to address the current and projected demand for Welsh medium education.”
