Simon Thomas welcomes representatives of Marine Energy companies

Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Climate Change and Rural Affairs Simon Thomas AM co-sponsored an event in the National Assembly with the leading lights in the field of marine power.

Bringing together innovative energy companies including SEACAMS, Minesto and Morlais, the presentations illustrated a range of areas where Wales is leading the way.

Plaid Cymru Mid and West AM Simon Thomas, said:

“This meeting highlighted how well we are doing as a nation with ideas. Wales has a willingness to be bold – with the energy industry being no exception to that.

“People, Governments and companies have fortunately become more aware of how we produce and use energy in recent years. It is therefore immensely reassuring to see the initiative being taken by businesses in this industry.

“I am pleased to see that many regard Wales as a hotspot for potential – with galvanising developments planned for my region. This is exactly what Wales should be exploiting, not delving into the environmentally dangerous path of fracking.

“EU structural funds have also prioritised €100.4 million for marine energy which we must all regard as the energy of the future.

“It has become increasingly clear that the Government in Westminster is holding us back by delaying important pathfinder projects like the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. We must not allow it to prevent us from reaching our full potential as a key player on the international stage.”
