Llanelli is gearing up for its biggest night of the year

Llanelli’s Christmas carnival is set to go off with a big bang this year with 17 floats already confirmed.

Coedcae School, Dancing Divas, Evans Recovery, Felinfoel Juniors RFC, the Friendship Theatre Group, Wales Air Ambulance, The Scarlets, Llanelli Swimming Club and Nando’s will all be taking part in the procession on Friday, November 17.

Around 20,000 people are expected to line the streets as the town celebrates its biggest night of the year with traditional floats, spectacular fireworks display, funfair, live music and a host of entertainment.

Carmarthenshire Radio will return and will be at the event with their outside broadcasting unit.

It is organised by Carmarthenshire County Council, Llanelli Rural Council, Llanelli Town Council and Llanelli Round Table. Dwr Cymru will also be supporting the procession, which is one of the biggest in Wales.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Cllr Peter Hughes-Griffiths said: “Llanelli Christmas carnival has a reputation for being one of the best in Wales; attracting people from across Carmarthenshire and beyond.”

Llanelli Rural Council Chairman Cllr H John Evans said: “It is one of the highlights of the year for Llanelli and gives residents and visitors an opportunity to not only set themselves up for the festive season, but to see what the town has to offer. The ongoing support of this annual event shows the commitment we have to making Llanelli a better place to live, work and enjoy.”

Llanelli Town Mayor, Cllr Jeff Edmunds said: “Llanelli Town Council continues to work in partnership with the rural and county councils to provide an excellent carnival which attracts many visitors to the town. The carnival is an event that families look forward to every year and signals the start of the festive period. Our thanks go out to all the volunteers who help make the carnival such a success. “

Roger Bowen from Llanelli Round Table said: “We are looking forward to yet another successful Christmas carnival this year. We already have 17 floats confirmed but are hoping to have at least 20 on the night. Hopefully the weather will be on our side and people will come out and support what is truly a great event”

Andrew Roberts, Capital Delivery Programme Manager for Welsh Water said: “We’re proud to be supporting Llanelli Christmas Carnival again this year after a great festive event last year. As Carmarthenshire’s largest annual event, we are looking forward to working with all who are involved in the organisation to make this year’s event even bigger than the last.

“Our RainScape team will be adding to the Christmas cheer at the event and will be on hand to answer any questions about our ongoing work in Llanelli.

“We’re currently working on a £20 million RainScape project in and around Llanelli’s Station Road, which is seeing us create a new surface water tunnel from Llanelli town centre to Delta Lakes to help manage rain water flow and protect the community from the risk of sewer flooding.
