Dyfed Powys Police is investigating two robberies that have occurred in the Llanelli area last night (3/11/12) and this afternoon (4/11/12).

The first robbery took place at the Samraat restaurant in Heol Gwili, Cefncaeau, Llanelli at approximately 22:10 last night. Two men entered the premises brandishing weapons and demanded money. They eventually made off on foot with a cream coloured safe containing a quantity of cash towards an alley between houses into Brynsierfel, Llwynhendy. No one was injured during the incident.

The men are described as follows: the first was wearing a purple hooded top with the hood up over his head, a scarf across his face and gloves on his hands. He was slim build, and about 5’10” tall. The second man was wearing a light coloured or possibly white hooded top with the hood over his head, and he also had a scarf across his face. The hoodie had the words Crosshatch in big writing across the chest. He is also described as slim build. Both spoke with a local accent.

The second robbery took place this afternoon at approximately 13:05 in Thomas Street Grocers and Post Office, Llanelli. A man entered the premises brandishing a weapon and demanded cigarettes and money. No one was injured during the incident, and nothing was taken. The man then made off on foot in the direction of Felinfoel Road or Gilbert Crescent.

The man is described as about 19 years old, was wearing a black hooded top with the word “Henleys” on the front in white writing, black and white camouflage trousers and a black scarf across his face covering his mouth and nose. He had large blue eyes.

Extensive enquiries and searches, including house to house and the use of specialist resources such as the force helicopter and dogs, are being conducted in order to trace the offenders. At this stage we do not believe the incidents are connected – but are keeping an open mind.

If any members of the public believe they sight any of the suspects they should not approach them – call the police immediately. If anyone witnessed anything suspicious or has any information relating to these incidents please call 101.

We would also advise any shopkeepers, business owners or staff in commercial premises in Llanelli to be particularly aware of their safety at this time and not to confront persons in this type of situation. Call the police as soon as possible on 999.
