Top of the league for being active

Carmarthenshire adults are top of the league for being active – and that’s official.

Figures released by Sport Wales this week show that Carmarthenshire, jointly with Newport, are the highest performing authorities for adults who are active three or more times a week.

The National Survey for Wales also revealed that Carmarthenshire is above the national average for sports club membership and has the second highest number of sporting volunteers.

Carmarthenshire is the third lowest in Wales for adults who have no frequent activity with 45%, significantly below the national average which is 53%.

The statistics, based on responses from 10,000 adults, are the first time sport, public health and other national data have been collected side-by-side as part of the National Survey for Wales.

The council’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Peter Hughes-Griffiths said: “I’m delighted that Carmarthenshire is one of the highest in Wales for adults participating in sport three or more times a week. The leisure team work hard in our centres, communities and schools to encourage people of all ages and abilities to live healthy lifestyles and get more active, more often, and these figures are testament to that.”

The council’s sport and leisure section (Actif) encourage all ways to get active including its Household Membership. At just £41 per month two adults and up to four children (under 18 years) can get unlimited access to all seven Actif facilities, six state of the art gyms, four swimming pools and over 100 fitness classes a week. Additional members living at the same household can be added at a charge.  Join online at www.actifsirgar.co.uk

Ar y brig am fod yn egnïol

Mae oedolion Sir Gaerfyrddin wedi cyrraedd y brig am fod yn egnïol – yn ôl ystadegau swyddogol.

Sir Gaerfyrddin, ar y cyd â Chasnewydd, yw’r awdurdodau sy’n perfformio orau yn ôl y ffigurau a gyhoeddwyd gan Chwaraeon Cymru yr wythnos hon. Mae hyn yn seiliedig ar yr oedolion sy’n egnïol deirgwaith neu fwy bob wythnos.

Datgelwyd hefyd yn Arolwg Cenedlaethol Cymru fod Sir Gaerfyrddin yn uwch na’r cyfartaledd cenedlaethol o ran aelodaeth clybiau chwaraeon, a bod gan y Sir yr ail nifer uchaf o wirfoddolwyr chwaraeon.

Sir Gaerfyrddin yw’r trydydd isaf yng Nghymru o ran yr oedolion nad ydynt yn egnïol yn aml, gyda 45%, sy’n llai o lawer na’r cyfartaledd cenedlaethol sef 53%.

Mae’r ystadegau ar sail atebion gan 10,000 o oedolion, a dyma’r tro cyntaf mae data chwaraeon, iechyd y cyhoedd a data cyhoeddus arall wedi’u casglu ochr yn ochr fel rhan o Arolwg Cenedlaethol Cymru.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Peter Hughes Griffiths, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Hamdden: “Rwyf wrth fy modd mai Sir Gaerfyrddin yw un o’r uchaf yng Nghymru o ran oedolion sy’n cymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon deirgwaith neu fwy bob wythnos. Mae’r tîm hamdden yn gweithio’n galed yn ein canolfannau, ein cymunedau a’n hysgolion i annog pobl o bob oedran a gallu i fyw bywyd iach a bod yn fwy egnïol, yn fwy aml. Mae’r ffigurau hyn yn tystio i hynny.”

Mae Adran Chwaraeon a Hamdden y Cyngor (Actif) yn annog pob ffordd o fod yn egnïol, megis ei Haelodaeth Aelwyd. Am £41 y mis yn unig, gall dau oedolyn a hyd at bedwar plentyn (o dan 18 oed) gael mynediad di-derfyn i bob un o’r saith cyfleuster Actif; chwe champfa o’r radd flaenaf, pedwar pwll nofio a dros 100 o ddosbarthiadau ffitrwydd bob wythnos. Gellir ychwanegu aelodau ychwanegol sy’n byw yn yr un aelwyd am dâl. Archebwch le ar-lein yn www.actifsirgar.co.uk
