New schools heritage project launched

A NEW project which aims to work with primary schools in Carmarthenshire to explore their cultural and built heritage has been launched.

The Heritage for Schools in Rural Carmarthenshire project will be led by the Tywi Centre in partnership with Sbectrwm, one of Wales’ most successful language, training and research consultancies and will work with schools in eligible wards across the county. The project will run for a year from December.
Children will be encouraged to investigate local Welsh characters and important historical events and bring them to life with storytelling and by making short films. They will also learn about traditional building methods and materials and how living conditions have changed over time.

Cllr Glynog Davies, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for education, said: “This is an interesting project which covers many different educational spheres for our primary school pupils and ticks many boxes within the national curriculum.

“All the information and media gathered will be developed into bi-lingual, web-based learning resources that supports the Key Stage 2 curriculum.

“The project delivery partnership brings together the Tywi Centre’s experience and knowledge relating to old buildings and Sbectrwm’s commitment to celebrating and promoting Welsh Culture, language and education.”

The project has received £36,022 from the LEADER scheme – Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 (RDP), funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government, in addition to £5,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Richard Bellamy, Head of HLF in Wales, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, HLF is able to help people learn about and take pride in their local heritage. Learning about history can be rewarding, fascinating and fun, and ‘Heritage for schools in rural Carmarthenshire’ is a good example of how it can be done.”

Lansio prosiect newydd treftadaeth ysgolion

MAE prosiect newydd wedi’i lansio’n ddiweddar, sydd â’r nod o weithio gydag ysgolion cynradd yn Sir Gaerfyrddin er mwyn archwilio’u treftadaeth adeiledig a diwylliannol.

Bydd y prosiect Treftadaeth Ysgolion Sir Gaerfyrddin Wledig yn cael ei arwain gan Ganolfan Tywi mewn partneriaeth â Sbectrwm, un o’r ymgyngoriaethau mwyaf llwyddiannus yng Nghymru o ran iaith, hyfforddi ac ymchwil, a bydd yn gweithio gydag ysgolion mewn wardiau cymwys ledled y Sir. Bydd y prosiect yn rhedeg am flwyddyn, gan ddechrau ym mis Rhagfyr.

Anogir plant i ddysgu am gymeriadau Cymreig lleol a digwyddiadau hanesyddol pwysig, er mwyn dod â nhw’n fyw trwy adrodd straeon a chreu ffilmiau byrion. Byddant hefyd yn dysgu am ddulliau a deunyddiau adeiladu traddodiadol a sut mae amodau byw wedi newid dros amser.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Glynog Davies, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Addysg: “Mae hwn yn brosiect diddorol sy’n cwmpasu gwahanol feysydd addysgol ar gyfer ein disgyblion cynradd ac mae’n bodloni llawer o feini prawf y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol.

“Bydd yr holl wybodaeth a’r cyfryngau a gesglir yn cael eu datblygu i greu adnoddau dysgu dwyieithog ar-lein sy’n cefnogi Cwricwlwm Cyfnod Allweddol 2.

“Mae’r bartneriaeth sy’n cyflawni’r prosiect yn dod ynghyd â phrofiad a gwybodaeth Canolfan Tywi am hen adeiladau, ac ymrwymiad Sbectrwm i ddathlu a hyrwyddo addysg, iaith a diwylliant Cymru.”

Mae’r prosiect wedi derbyn £36,022 gan y cynllun LEADER – Cymunedau Gwledig Llywodraeth Cymru – Rhaglen Datblygu Gwledig 2014-2020, a ariennir gan Gronfa Amaethyddol Ewrop ar gyfer Datblygu Gwledig a Llywodraeth Cymru, yn ogystal â £5,900 gan Gronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri.

Dywedodd Richard Bellamy, Pennaeth Cronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri yng Nghymru: “Diolch i chwaraewyr y Loteri Genedlaethol, mae Cronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri yn gallu helpu pobl i ddysgu am eu treftadaeth ac ymfalchïo ynddi. Gall dysgu am hanes fod yn fuddiol, yn ddiddorol ac yn hwyl, ac mae ‘Treftadaeth Ysgolion Sir Gaerfyrddin Wledig’ yn enghraifft dda o hyn.”
