Feedback sought on plans for new Five Roads school

PEOPLE are being given their first glimpse of the new school building proposed to replace Ysgol Pum Heol in Five Roads, Llanelli.

Carmarthenshire County Council has launched a consultation to gather feedback on its plans to build a new school as part of its Modernising Education Programme, which is jointly funded by the council and the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools initiative.

A larger school building on land surrounding the existing site would cater for 120 pupils, with additional nursery provision, helping to meet the demand for Welsh language education in the area.

Resources that could be shared with the local community such as the multi-use games area are also part of the plans, as well as off road parking for staff and visitors and a drop-off area for parents.

A formal planning application is expected to be submitted following the four-week consultation period, which officially starts on November 13.

The consultation is available on the council’s website and also at Llanelli Library.

Feedback from the consultation will be captured in a pre-planning application consultation report which will form part of the process.

Executive board member for education and children’s services, Cllr Glynog Davies said: “The development will seek to ensure that the school is sufficient in meeting current and projected demand for Welsh medium education and that the highest quality teaching and learning takes place in buildings that meet our aspirations.

“I encourage anyone with an interest in Ysgol Pum Heol to give their feedback as part of the consultation.”
