Conservatives forgotten Wales when it comes to Tidal Lagoon opportunities

Mid and West AM Simon Thomas has said that the Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond failure to give his backing to the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project in the UK budget on Wednesday means the Conservative party has forgotten Wales.

Plaid Cymru Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Simon Thomas AM said:

“A Wales in control of its own resources would have long ago given the go ahead to the tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay.

Within a generation our electricity could easily come from wind, solar and marine. No need for fossil fuels or a nuclear industry corrupted by nuclear weapons.

I’ve described this failure to back the Tidal Lagoon project as the biggest betrayal of our natural resources since Tryweryn.

Having reneged on their absolute commitment to electrify the rail track to Swansea, the Tories seem uninterested in anything west of Cardiff.”

Y Ceidwadwyr wedi anghofio Cymru pan ddaw’n fater o gyfleoedd am Forlyn y Llanw

Dywedodd AC y Canolbarth a’r Gorllewin Simon Thomas fod Canghellor y Trysorlys Philip Hammond wedi methu â datgan ei gefnogaeth i brosiect Morlyn Llanw Bae Abertawe yng nghyllideb y DG ar ddydd Mercher yn golygu bod y blaid Geidwadol wedi anghofio Cymru.

Dywedodd Ysgrifennydd Cabinet cysgodol Plaid Cymru dros Ynni, Newid Hinsawdd a Materion Gwledig, Simon Thomas AC:

“Byddai Cymru sy’n rheoli ei hadnoddau ei hun wedi rhoi caniatâd i fwrw ymlaen ers tro byd i’r morlyn llanw ym Mae Abertawe.

Ymhen cenhedlaeth, gallai ein trydan yn hawdd ddod o’r gwynt, yr haul a’r môr. Fyddai dim angen tanwydd ffosil na diwydiant niwclear sydd wedi’i lygru gan arfau niwclear.

Rwyf wedi disgrifio’r methiant hwn i gefnogi prosiect Morlyn y Llanw fel y brad mwyaf o’n hadnoddau naturiol ers Tryweryn.

Wedi troi eu cefnau at eu hymrwymiad absoliwt i drydaneiddio’r rheilffordd i Abertawe, mae’n ymddangos nad oes gan y Torïaid ddim diddordeb mewn dim i’r gorllewin o Gaerdydd.”
