Chair sought to provide strategic lead on City Deal

A NEW chair is being sought to lead the Swansea Bay City Deal’s new Economic Strategy Board.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction on the development and delivery of the 11 major projects that make up the £1.3billion Deal, which is hailed as a once in a generation opportunity to deliver real change for South West Wales.

Over the next 15 years, the investment is set to deliver almost 10,000 new jobs and boost the economy by £1.8billion and will establish the region as a recognised centre of excellence and innovation in the fields of smart manufacturing, energy, life science and well-being and economic acceleration.

Cllr Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, is the political leader of the Swansea Bay City Deal. He said: “Key to the Deal’s success is strong involvement from the private sector – the Economic Strategy Board will ensure the business community is fully engaged and plays a vital role.

“The ESB Chair will be expected to work with local, Welsh and UK Governments, the wider public sector, academic institutions and private sector industry to maximise the impact of the Deal for the region.

“The Chair will also focus on identifying current and emerging opportunities relating to City Deal, consolidating and furthering the region’s role in technological innovation, realisation and commercialisation.

“This is an exciting time for us as a region, and we welcome applications from anyone who wants to join us on this journey.”
