A MAN has been fined for dropping litter in a Llanelli street.
He was seen eating and walking along Arthur Street by council environmental enforcement officers, who were on patrol in the area at the time.
He then dropped the food wrappers on to the ground before getting into a van.
The officers approached the vehicle and explained what they had seen.
The 24-year-old was then issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75.
Failure to pay could lead to prosecution in court and a maximum fine of £2,500.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he hoped the fine would help to deter people from this type of anti-social behaviour.
He added: “Dropping litter is against the law, whether it is discarding rubbish from a vehicle, throwing cigarette ends or spitting out chewing gum.
“If there are no bins nearby, then take your rubbish home with you to dispose of. We do not want to fine people but if this is the only of getting through to people, then we have no choice.”
“We are determined to keep Carmarthenshire clean for both residents and visitors.”
