Schools give Insight into county council budget

SCHOOLS across Carmarthenshire have given councillors their views on budget proposals for the next three years.

Pupils from secondary schools gave presentations at County Council on the proposals which are now being consulted on.

It followed an Insight day held at Llanelli’s Ffwrnes Theatre as part of the council’s budget consultation.

Teams of 10 pupils represented the council leader and executive board members as they discussed their opinions on the proposed budget.

Bryngwyn; Bro Dinefwr; Bro Myrddin; Coleg Sir Gar; Dyffryn Aman; Glan y Mor; Emlyn; Maes y Gwendraeth; and QE High attended the event.

Each team was given two of the budget proposals to discuss, which their leader then gave a presentation on, along with suggestions of their own to save money.

Leaders from Bro Dinefwr; Bro Myrddin; Dyffryn Aman; Glan y Mor; Maes y Gwendraeth; and QE High gave their presentations to councillors, at the invitation of the Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole.

All thanked Cllr Dole for the opportunity to take part in the budget consultation and to present their views to members.

Dyffryn Aman leader Ben Davies said: “It is an honour and a privilege, and I thank you all for allowing us, the younger generation, to play a pivotal role in the outcome of the budget which will affect us all.”

Council Dole said: “The Insight day is my favourite part of our budget consultation, I look forward to hearing the views of young people on the new policy changes being proposed.

“Their feedback is vital and it is so refreshing to hear what they think about the issues that we face.

“I would like to thank them for the work and for sharing their views with us.”
