Work begins on parking improvements at Pontneddfechan

Work is due to get underway to improve parking provision at Waterfall Country, Pontneddfechan; a hugely popular location for visitors to Neath Port Talbot and the neighbouring Brecon Beacons National Park.

To alleviate parking issues within the local community, Neath Port Talbot Council has secured funding via Visit Wales’ Tourism Amenity Investment Scheme to create 43 additional off-road car parking spaces at the entrance to the village.

Work is due to begin on site within the next few weeks with the development being scheduled to avoid disruption during peak visitor seasons.

This project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. Match funding for this project has been provided by Neath Port Talbot Council and Brecon Beacons National Park.

Annette Wingrave Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainable Development said, ‘Pontneddfechan is a hub of visitor activity which has seen huge growth over recent years, however this growth has created significant parking pressures for the local community especially during peak times, we are delighted to be able to put these improvements into action in order to improve the situation for residents in the village and in turn improve our visitors’ experience’.

The Pontneddfechan parking scheme is an important achievement against the delivery of the Neath Port Talbot Destination Management Plan (DMP).  The DMP ensures that tourism development is delivered in partnership with the tourism sector and local communities, to effectively manage visitor impacts in the area and encourage the growth of tourism in Neath Port Talbot.

The project is due for completion before Easter 2018. The newly created car parking spaces will be free for visitors to use and will also support visits to local businesses within the village

Gwaith yn cychwyn ar wella parcio ym Mhontneddfechan

Mae gwaith ar fin cychwyn i wella darpariaeth barcio yng Ngwlad y Sgydiau, ym Mhontneddfechan, sy’n lleoliad hynod boblogaidd gydag ymwelwyr â Chastell-nedd Port Talbot a Pharc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog cyfagos.

Er mwyn lliniaru problemau parcio yn y gymuned leol, mae Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot wedi sicrhau cyllid drwy Gynllun Buddsoddi mewn Amwynderau Twristiaeth Croeso Cymru i greu 43 o leoedd parcio ychwanegol oddi ar y ffordd ger y fynedfa i’r pentref.

Disgwylir i’r gwaith ddechrau ar y safle yn ystod yr wythnosau i ddod, a chynllunnir y datblygiad i osgoi tarfu ar yr ardal yn ystod y cyfnodau prysuraf i ymwelwyr.

Mae’r cynllun hwn wedi derbyn cyllid gan Raglen Cymunedau Gwledig – Datblygu Gwledig 2014-2020 Llywodraeth Cymru, a ariennir gan Gronfa Amaethyddol Ewrop ar gyfer Datblygu Gwledig a Llywodraeth Cymru. Darparwyd arian cyfatebol i’r prosiect hwn gan Gyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot a Pharc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog.

Meddai Annette Wingrave, Aelod y Cabinet dros Adfywio a Datblygu Cynaliadwy, ‘Mae Pontneddfechan yn ganolbwynt i weithgareddau i ymwelwyr sydd wedi gweld twf mawr dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf. Fodd bynnag, mae’r twf hwn wedi creu pwysau parcio sylweddol i’r gymuned leol, yn enwedig yn ystod y cyfnodau prysuraf, ac felly rydym ni wrth ein boddau i wireddu’r gwelliannau hyn er mwyn gwella’r sefyllfa i breswylwyr y pentref ac, ar ben hynny, wella profiad ein hymwelwyr.’

Mae cynllun parcio Pontneddfechan yn llwyddiant pwysig o ran cyflwyno Cynllun Rheoli Cyrchfannau Castell-nedd Port Talbot (CRhC).  Mae’r CRhC yn sicrhau y cyflwynir datblygu twristiaeth mewn partneriaeth â’r sector twristiaeth a chymunedau lleol, er mwyn rheoli’r effaith ar ymwelwyr yn effeithiol ac annog twf twristiaeth yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot.

Disgwylir i’r prosiect gael ei gwblhau cyn y Pasg yn 2018. Bydd y lleoedd parcio newydd ar gael am ddim i’w defnyddio gan ymwelwyr a byddant hefyd yn cefnogi ymweliadau â busnesau lleol yn y pentref.
