Dr Roger Diggle, Deputy Medical Director at Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “Along with all health boards in Wales and indeed across the UK, hospital and primary care services within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area are responding to extremely high levels of emergency patient demand during the post Christmas period.
“We are very grateful to our staff for their continuing efforts in supporting patients during this challenging period.
“In order to safely accommodate the volume of patients requiring emergency treatment, some planned operations have been postponed although we are striving to keep this to an absolute minimum and our hospital teams are reviewing this on a daily basis. Patients will be contacted should their planned operations need to be postponed.
“Hospital escalation levels reflect the circumstances in each hospital at a point in time and by nature, can fluctuate throughout the 24 hour period. At various points this week, many of our hospitals have been operating at the highest escalation levels and we continue to review this on an hourly basis. Confirmed performance in respect of the A&E 4 hour target is not yet available although we do wish to extend our apologies to any patients who have experienced increased waiting times as a consequence of the capacity pressures faced by our A&E teams this week.”
