During the build up over the last two year  I’ve had many theories on the Star Wars plot and even on the origin of the character Rey, but there was no way I was ready for what I saw in this chapter of the Star Wars Saga.

There were so many twists and turns I couldn’t keep up with the plot. The story of Luke Skywalker in this episode did not go the way I expected.  To quote what he said in the trailer ‘This is not going to go the way you think.’ That was quite an understatement!

Now a lot of people lately have been keeping on about things that have been happening in this film, for instance… the characters of Finn and Rose… the story isn’t about them,  it’s not about Princess Leia, it’s not about Snoke, it’s not even about Luke Skywalker… for crying out loud!

It’s about Rey and Kylo Ren who are trying to find out where they both belong and what part they have to play, as do many other characters. That’s what this trilogy is all about, a new generation of characters for the new generation of Star Wars fans of today. That’s what I wish people would realise, for it seems that a lot of fans are just stuck in the past and that’s what’s causing a lot of friction. But that’s my view of this film anyway.

Now I love that Rey is still something of a mystery for the new generation and we still have no clue as to who her parents are. Are they junkers?  Are they rich? Did they leave her for her protection or theirs? Did they not even care about her? And that is what I love about this character. She is the biggest conundrum I’ve ever seen in the Star Wars Universe so I hope they do something really special with her character, which I’m certain we’ll find out in episode nine. Speaking of which, J J Abrams will be directing and I just cannot wait as he is my favourite director.

It was amazing to see Mark Hamill revive his role as the legendary Luke Skywalker alongside the recently departed Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa. I wish Skywalker had used more skills as a Jedi but I’ll take what I can get. And I’m not afraid to admit that I did shed a few tears as I saw Carrie back on screen.

All in all, Daisy Ridley gives a remarkable performance. I cannot wait to see what is done with her character in the next edition, as I also look forward to John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac.
