Emma Williams an eczema nurse specialist who has run successful nurse-led clinics across Abertawe Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust for the past 10 years is to start a new clinic. Emma told us that:

“Due to increasing waiting lists and requests from clients, I have set up an independent clinic.”

“I cover all of South West Wales, providing consultations at the client’s home or in a clinic setting if preferred. At the present time, this is the only independent nurse-led eczema service available.”

“There’s no I do not try and sell expensive creams or treatments – all treatments are available on prescription.”

Eczema is a very under-estimated condition, with many having the attitude that ‘it’s only eczema’.

Eczema affects around a quarter of children and adults. The severity can vary from mild to severe, and affect any part of the body. Regardless of the severity, eczema can have a huge impact on people’s lives – lack of sleep, pain, constant itching, lack of concentration, sometimes even limiting career choices.

As well as the physical effect, the psychological impact can be huge on not just the sufferer, but the rest of the family also. Eczema can have an impact on positive body image, regardless of age or gender.

All this, mixed with the confusion regarding the safety of treatments, the amount of creams on your bathroom shelf and the conflicting advice that comes from all area only adds to the frustration caused by the condition. This in turn results in eczema being very poorly managed.

Emma says that her clinic will help patient/clients find the best treatment that will suit their school/work day and lifestyle in general.

The clinic will also explain the differences in the treatments, how long they should be used for, and how to apply them correctly.

There is a fee which is per consultation, not per hour. So if the consultation is longer, then there is no extra charge as the clinic is more concerned with patient satisfaction e.g. been given all the information about your condition and treatments, and that all questions have been answered.
