Sheep Scab cases
CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council’s animal health team has been made aware of several cases of Sheep Scab in the area, and are reminding farmers that sheep who have scab should not be sold through a market.
Anyone who suspects that their sheep may have scab is advised that examination of samples for sheep ectoparasites is being offered free of charge in Wales until March 31.
The scheme, supported by Welsh Government, will aid accurate diagnosis, which is a prerequisite for appropriate treatment and successful control of ovine ectoparasites.
Improved control of sheep scab is a priority of the Wales Animal Health and Welfare Framework.
Testing will be undertaken at the Animal and Plant Health’s Veterinary Investigation Centre in Carmarthen.
Samples will be received in the normal way, via a veterinary surgeon and should be posted direct to Carmarthen VIC. They must be accompanied by full clinical history to qualify for free testing.

Samples can be submitted on a general submission form found on the Vet Gateway: http://ahvla.defra.gov.uk/vet-gateway/surveillance/forms.htm
Achosion o Glafr y Defaid
MAE tîm iechyd anifeiliaid Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin wedi cael gwybod am sawl achos o Glafr y Defaid (Sheep Scab) yn yr ardal, ac mae’r tîm yn atgoffa ffermwyr na ddylai defaid sydd â’r clefyd hwn gael eu gwerthu drwy’r farchnad.
Os oes unrhyw un yn amau bod y clafr ar eu defaid, cynigir archwilio samplau o ectoparasitau defaid am ddim yng Nghymru tan 31 Mawrth.
Bydd y cynllun, sy’n cael ei gefnogi gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn helpu â chywirdeb wrth ddiagnosio, sy’n hanfodol er mwyn trin ectoparasitau dafadaidd yn briodol a’u rheoli’n llwyddiannus.
Mae rheoli clafr y defaid yn well yn flaenoriaeth gan Fframwaith Iechyd a Lles Anifeiliaid Cymru.
Cynhelir profion yn y Ganolfan Ymchwilio Milfeddygol ar gyfer Iechyd Anifeiliaid a Phlanhigion yng Nghaerfyrddin.
Caiff samplau eu derbyn yn y ffordd arferol, drwy filfeddyg, a dylid eu postio’n uniongyrchol i’r Ganolfan Ymchwilio Milfeddygol yng Nghaerfyrddin. Rhaid cyflwyno’r hanes clinigol llawn gyda’r samplau er mwyn bod yn gymwys i gael profion am ddim.
