Festive fundraising raises £10k for children’s charity

A Christmas Carol Concert and Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland helped raise more than £10,000 for NSPCC Cymru / Wales over the festive period.

Both events raised more than £5,000 each for the children’s charity, with the money raised going towards its work to protect all children from abuse and neglect.

A sell-out crowd of 500 people were at  Llandaff Cathedral on Friday, December 15, to enjoy a night of carols, readings and choirs.

The event, in its fifth year and sponsored by Eversheds Sutherland, was hosted by Welsh television personality Angharad Mair.

Performers taking to the stage included the Admiral Inspire Choir, Cor Tadau Trisant and The Salvation Army Band.

From November 11 until early January NSPCC Wales also had a fundraising stall at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland.

As well as collecting donations, NSPCC volunteers helped children make Christmas tree decorations that they could either take home or hang on the NSPCC Christmas tree.

An NSPCC Cymru / Wales spokesman said: “We are delighted that our annual Christmas Carol Concert and Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland were so successful in raising funds for our vital work to protect children in Wales.

“We would like to thank everyone who bought tickets for our concert and who contributed at Winter Wonderland.

“All the money raised will go towards fighting for every childhood and helping children who have been victims of abuse rebuild their lives.”

The NSPCC delivers a variety of services across Wales through three service centres in Cardiff, Prestatyn and Swansea, its Childline bases in Cardiff and Prestatyn and the Speak Out Stay Safe service which visits hundreds of schools.

Norman George Sayers, of Sayers Amusements, said: “It was great to meet Dame Esther Rantzen at the beginning of the campaign, and discover how our partnership with the NSPCC Cymru / Wales would help in the fight for childhoods in Wales. We are so grateful that visitors to Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland this Christmas were able to contribute to such a fantastic cause.”
