County’s sporting heroes honoured

 

RUGBY player Jonathan Davies has been named Sports Personality of the Year at this year’s award ceremony.

The Scarlets and Wales centre from Bancyfelin was amongst a host of talented sportsmen and women from across the county who were shortlisted for this year’s Carmarthenshire Sports Personality Awards.

Winners from across the county were honoured for their achievements at Ffrwnes Theatre on Friday night.

The event, organised by Carmarthenshire County Council’s sport and leisure team, recognises and rewards people of all ages and abilities who contribute to sport in Carmarthenshire.

Executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, said: “This was an excellent evening, celebrating the huge amount of sporting talent that we have in the county. I was also especially pleased to present a special recognition award to Wyn Gruffydd for his contributions to the Welsh language through his sports commentating.”

MAE’R chwaraewr rygbi Jonathan Davies wedi cael ei enwi’n Bersonoliaeth Chwaraeon y  Flwyddyn yn y seremoni wobrwyo eleni.

Roedd y canolwr o Fancyfelin, sy’n chwarae i dimau rygbi’r Scarlets a Chymru, ymhlith llu o fabolgampwyr dawnus o bob cwr o’r sir a gyrhaeddodd y rhestr fer ar gyfer Gwobrau Personoliaeth Chwaraeon Sir Gaerfyrddin eleni.

Cafodd enillwyr ledled y sir eu hanrhydeddu am eu cyflawniadau yn y Theatr y Ffwrnes nos Wener.

Mae’r digwyddiad, a drefnir gan dîm chwaraeon a hamdden Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin, yn cydnabod ac yn gwobrwyo pobl o bob oedran a gallu sy’n cyfrannu at chwaraeon yn Sir Gaerfyrddin.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Peter Hughes Griffiths, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Ddiwylliant, Chwaraeon a Thwristiaeth: “Roedd hon yn noson ardderchog a oedd yn dathlu’r doniau chwaraeon niferus dros ben sydd gennym yn y sir. Roeddwn yn arbennig o falch o gael cyflwyno gwobr cydnabyddiaeth arbennig i Wyn Gruffydd am ei gyfraniad i’r iaith Gymraeg drwy ei waith fel sylwebydd chwaraeon.”
