Dear Time2Talk

There is this girl in school (in on a Wednesday) and she’s always around us but we don’t like her.

She is really bossy, and up herself!

She thinks she knows it all as she had better GCSE results than we did.

However, we have to work with her for an hour or so on a Wednesday and this proves a problem.

What can we do to be nice to her, as we really don’t want her around? How can we tell her?

Thanks

Trying to be nice

Dear trying to be nice,

We all have to be around some people we donā€™t like at some point in our lives.

This could be other students, colleagues and even family members. The important thing to remember is that everyone is different.

Itā€™s good to see peopleā€™s positive attributes instead of their negative ones, after all no-one is perfect. You only have to see this person for an hour once a week. Try to see her positive traits and not her negative ones.

If there is something that she says, and you feel it was hurtful, confront her about it there and then. At least she will then know that sometimes the things she says/does can be hurtful. This might encourage her to reflect on her behaviour and be more respectful towards you and other people.

Try to show tolerance and remember to try and see the positives in people rather than the negatives.

Gemma.
