Council staff maintaining services despite snow

DEDICATED Carmarthenshire Council staff are all pulling out all the stops to keep services running in the severe winter weather.

From transport teams gritting hundreds of miles of roads to care home workers supporting the elderly and vulnerable, council staff are working around the clock to help keep the county safe and moving in the snow and ice.

The council is also using its 4×4 vehicles to help the Hywel Dda University Health Board transport staff and patients to hospitals across Carmarthenshire.

Although the number of rough sleepers in Carmarthenshire is low, the council’s housing team has arranged temporary accommodation for people who present themselves as homeless.

Council tenants who have reported boiler problems are being reassured that all their reports have all been logged, and that repairs will be carried out as soon as possible.

Cllr Emlyn Dole, Carmarthenshire Council Leader, said: “Council staff should be praised for their dedication to maintaining services, wherever possible, during the severe winter weather that’s hit the county in recent days.

“We’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding, but residents can be reassured that our staff are doing all they can to help keep the county safe and moving, with comprehensive planning also in place for the possibility of more snow and ice in coming days.

“Many people in Carmarthenshire have been volunteering their help and support too, which speaks volumes for the kind of caring, compassionate communities we have right across the county.

“Businesses have been doing all they can to support people as well, so everyone should be commended for their part in looking out for the wellbeing of others.”

Examples of businesses stepping up to the plate include The White Hart in Llandeilo, who are offering a free bed and warm meal to the homeless. The Bridge in Llangennech is also giving out free meals to the elderly and infirm in the area.

The council is advising people not to travel, unless it’s absolutely essential. School closures are being listed on the council website.

Residents who are concerned about their ability to keep their homes warm during the cold spell are advised that payments are automatically made to those eligible for support.

Refuse collections that were due this morning (Friday March 2) have been suspended, with updates to be made available as soon as possible.

MAE staff ymroddedig Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin yn gwneud eu gorau glas i sicrhau bod gwasanaethau yn dal i gael eu darparu yn ystod y tywydd gaeafol garw.

O dimau trafnidiaeth sy’n graeanu cannoedd o filltiroedd o ffyrdd i weithwyr cartrefi gofal sy’n cefnogi pobl oedrannus ac agored i niwed, mae staff y Cyngor yn gweithio bob awr o’r dydd i helpu i sicrhau bod pobl y sir yn ddiogel ac yn gallu teithio yn ystod yr eira a’r rhew.

Mae’r Cyngor hefyd yn defnyddio cerbydau gyriant pedair olwyn i helpu Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda i gludo staff a chleifion i ysbytai ledled Sir Gaerfyrddin.

Er mai ychydig o bobl sy’n cysgu allan yn Sir Gaerfyrddin, mae tîm tai y Cyngor wedi trefnu llety dros dro i bobl sy’n ddigartref.

Rhoddir sicrwydd i denantiaid y Cyngor sydd wedi cael problemau yn ymwneud â’u boeler fod pob problem wedi’i chofnodi, ac y bydd gwaith atgyweirio yn cael ei wneud cyn gynted â phosibl.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Emlyn Dole, Arweinydd Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin: “Dylid canmol staff y Cyngor am eu hymroddiad i gynnal gwasanaethau, lle bynnag bo’n bosibl, yn ystod y tywydd gaeafol garw sydd wedi effeithio ar y sir yn ystod y dyddiau diwethaf.

“Hoffem ddiolch i bobl am eu hamynedd a’u dealltwriaeth, ond gall trigolion fod yn dawel eu meddwl bod ein staff yn gwneud eu gorau glas i helpu i sicrhau bod pobl y sir yn ddiogel ac yn gallu teithio, ac mae cynlluniau cynhwysfawr hefyd ar waith ar gyfer y posibilrwydd o fwy o eira a rhew yn y dyddiau nesaf.

“Mae llawer o bobl yn Sir Gaerfyrddin wedi cynnig eu cymorth a’u cefnogaeth hefyd, sy’n dangos yn glir fod gennym gymunedau gofalgar a thosturiol ledled y sir.

“Mae busnesau wedi gwneud popeth o fewn eu gallu i gefnogi pobl hefyd, felly dylid canmol pawb am wneud eu rhan i ofalu am les pobl eraill.”

Ymhlith yr enghreifftiau o fusnesau sy’n camu i’r adwy yw tafarn y White Hart yn Llandeilo, sy’n cynnig pryd twym a gwely am ddim i bobl ddigartref. Hefyd mae tafarn y Bridge yn Llangennech yn rhoi prydau am ddim i bobl oedrannus a llesg yn yr ardal.

Mae’r Cyngor yn cynghori pobl i beidio â theithio, oni bai ei bod yn gwbl hanfodol. Nodir yr ysgolion sydd wedi cau ar wefan y Cyngor.

Rhoddir gwybod i drigolion sy’n poeni am eu gallu i gadw eu cartref yn gynnes yn ystod y cyfnod o dywydd oer y bydd taliadau’n cael eu gwneud yn awtomatig i’r rheiny sy’n gymwys i gael cymorth.
