‘Y Ffwrness’ has opened its doors – what a landmark for live entertainment in our town.
Llanelli has, of course, a long tradition of theatre. It was in 1913, a hundred years ago that audiences thronged to the ‘Haggers’ theatre for a week of Shakespearian plays , to see the renowned actress Miss Kate Turner tread the boards .
We are fortunate in having a wealth of local talent who have brought Theatre Elli to life on many occasions. Hopefully ‘Y Ffwrness’ will continue that fine tradition.
‘The whole world’s a stage and all men and women are merely actors’ begins the monologue from Shakespeare’s ‘As You like It’. Every good drama eventually brings all its threads and themes together as the plot works out as we identify with the characters. By the final curtain all would have been revealed and the story fully told.
Such is the drama of life. The backcloth is a world where evil, terrorism and fear dominate. Our faith is often tested when we see so much suffering and the evil actions of so many.
It is then we need to trust in God and to be sure that he is working out his purposes despite the often cruel ‘twists’ that evil throws into the drama of life. Jesus is the heart of God’s story and the great themes of love, redemption, hope and judgement on evil are brought together in him.
One day, the final curtain will fall, until then faith will see us through to when all will be revealed and God’s story will be ours as well.
