Freeze on school meal prices
SCHOOL meals will remain at £2.50 for the next year, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board has confirmed.
Executive board members have agreed the freeze on price during Monday’s (March 26) meeting.
It had been approved during the 2018/19 budget that the meals be increased by 10p to £2.60, but Cllr Glynog Davies, executive board member for education, has been working with officers to find ways of avoiding the increase.
He told fellow members during the meeting that funding has now been identified within the education budget.
During the meeting he said: “There is a concern that another increase would be detrimental to the service, leading to less children having school meals. Officers have found the money within the education budget so I recommend a freeze on the prices to £2.50.
“I am proud of this service and am assured that the standard of food is excellent, healthy and nutritious which our young people in the schools need.”

Dim newid i brisiau ysgol
MAE Bwrdd Gweithredol Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin wedi cadarnhau y bydd prisiau prydau ysgol yn parhau i fod yn £2.50 dros y flwyddyn nesaf.
Cytunodd Aelodau’r Bwrdd Gweithredol i rewi’r prisiau yn ystod eu cyfarfod ar ddydd Llun (Mawrth 26).
Yn y gyllideb ar gyfer 2018/19, cymeradwywyd y byddai’r prisiau cynyddu 10c i £2.60, ond mae’r Cynghorydd Glynog Davies, sef Aelod y Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Addysg, wedi bod yn gweithio gyda’r swyddogion i ddod o hyd i ffyrdd o osgoi’r cynnydd.
Dywedodd wrth ei gyd-aelodau yn ystod y cyfarfod fod cyllid bellach wedi cael ei nodi yn y gyllideb addysg.
Yn ystod y cyfarfod, dywedodd: “Mae yna bryder y byddai cynnydd arall yn cael effaith negyddol ar y gwasanaeth, gan arwain at lai o blant yn cael prydau ysgol. Mae’r Swyddogion wedi dod o hyd i’r arian yn y gyllideb addysg felly rwyf yn argymell bod y prisiau’n aros yn £2.50.
“Rwyf yn falch o’r gwasanaeth hwn ac rwyf wedi cael fy sicrhau bod safon y bwyd yn rhagorol, yn iach ac yn faethlon, a dyma beth sydd ei angen ar bobl ifanc yn ein hysgolion.”
