In response to her letter enquiring about the roll-out of superfast broadband for residents and businesses in the Llanelli constituency, Nia Griffith MP has received a reply from BT.
In summary, it says:
“A number of exchanges in Carmarthenshire have had their copper broadband upgraded. They are: Llanelli, Burry Port, Kidwelly, Cross Hands, Ammanford, Carmarthen, Llandybie, Newcastle Emlyn and Felindre.”
“In addition the Llanelli exchange has Ethernet – a premium broadband service that is mainly suitable for medium to large companies. Currently there are 82 cabinets on the Llanelli exchange, and there are already plans to upgrade 65.”
“BT say they are planning a major awareness campaign of superfast Broadband in conjunction with the Welsh Government which will include a new joint website providing up-to-date information.”
Commenting on the response, Nia said:
“ I am pleased to hear that BT and the Welsh Government are planning a major awareness campaign about superfast broadband, including a website. In the meantime, if anyone has any specific questions for BT about the roll-out of superfast broadband, let me know and I will seek answers.”
