When I first heard of a possible Krypton series a few years ago, I was filled with a mix of excitement and hesitation.
I was excited because the aspect of the whole TV series was to be focused entirely on the planet Krypton, Superman’s home world, and I would finally find out more about the history and culture of the Kryptonian people.
As for my hesitation, I was a little concerned on how the series was going to reveal this or if it was only being done just for the purpose of putting something on the air for a paycheque. However, I am happy to say, that with the opening of the first episode I was utterly drawn to what I was watching on the screen.
This is a completely fresh new take on the Superman mythology that we’ve all come to know and love. It also possesses the capability of adapting the mythology along the way.
It seems though, that this new series has been developed from Man of Steel, the first movie of the DCEU series leading up to the Justice League movie, which I love by the way! I don’t care what opinions others have. There were a lot of things mentioned from Man of Steel, for example, the Genesis Chamber (which facilitates that which creates the birth of every Kryptonian baby, as procreation is no longer the norm).
The crest of the House of El, or if you prefer it known, as the Superman Shield is pretty similar to the one in Man of Steel as well, so it seems quite obvious that this show was developed from the film.
So, with the story just beginning, we find Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) is approached by a man from the future who tells him that someone is on a mission to wipe out his grandson Kal-El, aka Superman from history. And it is up to Seg to restore his family’s good name and save his future grandson from non-existence.
As it is only the first episode I decline to give a rating as I have not seen enough of the series to do so, but I can see a good future for this show and I cannot wait for the next addition to the story.
