Carmarthen author Anthony James has hit the top twenty in a popular national writing competition.

His story, ‘Coffee and Loathing at Victoria’ struck the competition readers as particularly topical, asking questions about where the hatred and fear around us come from – James, a well-travelled author, well grounded in politics in the UK and abroad, has had a variety of poems, stories and reviews published in his time. His most recent non-fiction work is _Orwell’s Faded Lion: the Moral Atmosphere of Britain, 1945-2015_.

He says though, that all forms of writing can make a political contribution. “I believe that _any _good book,   including ‘The Sorcery of Smog’ pushes back the tide of tyranny, lies and ignorance.”

‘Sorcery of Smog – 24 unforgettable stories’. (Pub Earlyworks Press, UK £9.99, ISBN 9781910841471)
