Environment Agency Wales is advising people to remain vigilant for likely localised flooding across many parts of Wales as further heavy rainfall is forecast for this evening into Sunday.
Following the heavy downpours last night which resulted in flooding in parts of south west Wales, further bands of persistent rain are expected to reach most of Wales on Saturday evening and through the night to Sunday. The rain is likely to be worse in South and mid Wales.
The rain and milder temperatures will result in the rapid thaw of any remaining snow, which may contribute to localised flooding and surface water on roads and fields. Rivers and streams could rise in response to the rainfall and flood warnings and alerts may be issued.
The rain will expected to clear during the early hours of Sunday morning but further heavy showers are expected to follow later in the day and through to Monday. The unsettled weather is likely to continue into the early part of next week.
This latest rain comes after more heavy rain last night. Environment Agency Wales staff have been assisting the Fire Service and Local Authorities in areas hit by last nightâs flooding, which particularly hit south west Wales. Our staff are out in communities clearing blockages and making sure our defences and structures are ready for the further rain. As the ground is already very wet, any more rain could easily result in localised flooding.
People are advised to take extra care while travelling as driving conditions could be hazardous.
Flood water is extremely dangerous and people should not attempt to walk or drive through it.
The Agency is advising people to keep a close eye on the forecast and listen in to local news updates for any disruption in their area.
