INSPIRING WOMEN TO BE CELEBRATED AT CHWARAE TEG AWARDS CEREMONY

Women from Ceredigion will be travelling to Cardiff on Tuesday 5th June as finalists of Chwarae Teg’s Womenspire 18 event.  _Womenspire 18_, an awards ceremony like no other, celebrates the achievements of remarkable women through a number of categories: from women working in science and engineering, to women in rural Wales; from women in sport to the rising star award for women only just starting out in their careers.  There are also two awards for businesses who are taking action to improve diversity and enable women to progress and thrive in the workplace.

Three women from Ceredigion have reached the finals for their achievements.  Blogger and published author Heulwen Davies from Aberystwyth is up for the Rising Star award; playwright and patron to the arts Kaite O Reilly from Llanarth is a finalist in the Women in the Creative Sector category and Cath Peasley from Machynlleth has been shortlisted for the Women in Rural Wales category for her work at Dulas Ltd.

The awards ceremony, which is an annual event now in its third year, will be held at the Wales Millennium centre in Cardiff and will be hosted by Shan Cothi.  The theatrical event will also feature performances by singers, dancers and acrobats.

Louise David from Chwarae Teg said:

“WOMENSPIRE IS AN INSPIRING EVENT THAT SHOWCASES REMARKABLE WOMEN FROM ACROSS ALL OF WALES AND THIS YEAR WE HAVE SOME TRULY REMARKABLE FINALISTS.  AT THE AWARDS CEREMONY ON TUESDAY NIGHT WE WILL BE CELEBRATING WOMEN FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE – FROM BUSINESS OWNERS TO COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS.

“ALL TOO OFTEN THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF WOMEN GO UNNOTICED AND WE AT CHWARAE TEG WANT TO CHANGE THAT, AND TO HOLD THESE WOMEN UP AS ROLE MODELS.

“WOMENSPIRE RECOGNISES WOMEN FOR EVERY ASPECT OF LIFE, FROM PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS TO OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS, AND FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS AND STAGES IN LIFE OR WORK.

“THE AIM OF OUR EVENT TONIGHT IS TO APPLAUD WHAT THESE WOMEN HAVE DONE, TO INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS AND SHOW THAT WOMEN CAN AIM TO BE EVERYTHING THEY WANT TO BE.”
