Reduced rates agreed for Carmarthenshire businesses

AROUND 600 businesses are set to benefit from a £170,000 rate relief package following a decision by Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board.

The council will be supporting a Welsh Government non-domestic rates relief scheme which could see eligible businesses save up to £750 a year.

Welsh Government recently confirmed that its High Street Rate Relief scheme will be extended to 2018/19, albeit with reduced overall funding and therefore lower levels of relief for individual ratepayers.

The scheme is aimed specifically at high street retailers, such as shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes that have seen their rates increase as a result of the 2017 revaluation undertaken by the Valuation Office Agency.

Local authorities, like Carmarthenshire County Council, collect business rates on behalf of the Welsh Government.

The recommendation put to executive board by Cllr David Jenkins, executive board member for resources, was unanimously supported.

He said: “Those who qualify for the rate relief will be contacted over the coming weeks with new bills issued.”

BYDD tua 600 o fusnesau yn cael budd o becyn rhyddhad ardrethi gwerth £170,000 yn dilyn penderfyniad gan Fwrdd Gweithredol Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin.

Bydd y Cyngor yn cefnogi cynllun rhyddhad ardrethi annomestig Llywodraeth Cymru a allai olygu bod busnesau cymwys yn arbed hyd at £750 y flwyddyn.

Cadarnhaodd Llywodraeth Cymru yn ddiweddar y bydd ei chynllun Rhyddhad Ardrethi’r Stryd Fawr yn cael ei ymestyn i 2018/19, ond y bydd llai o gyllid yn gyffredinol ac felly llai o ryddhad ar gyfer talwyr ardrethi unigol.

Mae’r cynllun ar gyfer adwerthwyr y stryd fawr yn benodol, megis siopau, bwytai, tafarnau a chaffis sydd wedi gweld cynnydd yn eu hardrethi o ganlyniad i’r ailbrisiad gan Asiantaeth y Swyddfa Brisio yn 2017.

Mae awdurdodau lleol, megis Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin, yn casglu ardrethi busnes ar ran Llywodraeth Cymru.

Cafodd yr argymhelliad a gyflwynwyd gerbron y Bwrdd Gweithredol gan y Cynghorydd David Jenkins, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Adnoddau, ei gefnogi yn unfrydol.

Dywedodd: “Byddwn yn cysylltu â’r rheiny sy’n gymwys i gael y rhyddhad ardrethi yn ystod yr wythnosau nesaf ac yn rhoi biliau newydd iddynt.”
