A LLANELLI man who drove off after being caught dropping litter by the council has been prosecuted in court.

Keanu Aston A.Johnstone of Coldstream Street was found guilty in absence to an offence contrary to Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court.

The court heard that he was seen dropping a drinks can out of a car window in the B&Q car park in Parc Trostre by council environmental enforcement officers on Tuesday, July 17 last year.

He became obstructive towards the officers and drove off before they could take his details.

However, he was later identified and reported for summons to court for the offence.

A.Johnstone was fined £200 by magistrates and ordered to pay £400.11 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “This particular individual was tracked down by officers and successfully prosecuted despite trying to get away with it by driving off.

“I think this demonstrates just how much of a priority it is for the council to keep the county clean and tidy.

“This type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we will not hesitate to prosecute offenders.”
