Following increased reports of harvesters returning to collect razor clams on Llanfairfechan beach – despite the fishery’s closure by the Welsh Government until 31st December 2018 – Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders has called for a further crackdown on the practice.

Janet said:

“I have raised this matter once more with North Wales Police, and am pleased to understand that they are increasing their passing patrols of the beach, along with Welsh Government Fisheries.

“However, concerns have been raised regarding the suitability and prominence of the signage put up to advise of this fishery’s closure – with many called for more, larger, and sturdier signs in the area.

“I have written directly to the Cabinet Secretary to draw her attention to this once more. Despite her numerous assertions previously that the signage was adequate, these reports of harvesters returning and undertaking this activity illegally show that more must be done.”
