Welsh Premier League – Week 5 reports

Last season’s Grand Finalists Valley Cougars and Torfaen Tigers remain unbeaten this season after wins on Saturday.

Valley Cougars beat Rhondda Outlaws 46-28 in the battle of the valleys, but the Pontypridd-side made them fight all the way, the second half being more even than the first with the Cougars being 26-12 up at the break.

However Outlaws battled back and with ten minutes to go they were within two points at 30-28 only for Cougars to cement matters with three late tries.

Shane Lee and Dean Higgs each went over twice for the Cougars with Gethin King, Ryan Davis, Ross Jones, Christopher Speck and Scott Britton each crossing once. Ben Jones kicked five conversions.

Jackson Huntley scored two tries for the Outlaws with Shaun Watton, Mark Jones and Daff Smith crossing once. Max Hendy converted four times.

TORFAEN TIGERS 42 CARDIFF BLUE DRAGONS 10

Torfaen Tigers beat Cardiff Blue Dragons 42-10 where 16-year old Joe Langbridge stood out on his first team debut.

With the score at 22-6 after the half-time break, the winger raced over for a 70-metre try, pushing off three Cardiff players en route to the line.

Geoff Hick scored a brace for the Tigers, with Chris Wannell, Wes Cunliffe, Rob Davies, Brett Thomas and Darrel Moyle all adding further scores. Dai Thomas kicked five goals.

Morgan Cochran and Jacob Brennan replied for Cardiff with Daf Green converting once.
