FOUR people have been fined for throwing litter from cars parked in the Cross Hands Business Park.
Council environmental enforcement officers were on patrol in the area on Saturday afternoon and saw several vehicles parked together in the Leekes car park.
Four of the male occupants were seen throwing fast-food packaging from the vehicles with no attempt made to pick it up.
They were each issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75.
Failure to pay could result in prosecution in court and a maximum fine of £2,500.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he hoped these fines would act as a warning to others.
He said: “Dropping litter is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated. Our enforcement officers carry out patrols across the county and anyone caught dropping litter will be fined.
“The council is working hard to keep the county clean and we will not hesitate to take action against those people intent on spoiling it for others.”
