Brass Band Hits All The Right Notes
Last Saturday (July 21) saw an afternoon with a difference as brass bands from various parts of Wales merged to commemorate the 100 year centenary of World War 1 (1918-2018). It’s part of a series of events going on in Llanelli as well as various parts of the UK.
Gurnos Rees organised brass bands from various parts of Wales who put on a show outside The York Palace and it was well received over the hour and a half duration. There are veterans in Llanelli who were involved in the First World War. The aim of the event was to fundraise and raise awareness of the active veterans who are an invaluable asset to our community.
The combined brass bands saw people travel from Gowerton, Gorseinon and further afield to cater to this event for their commemoration. A range of music was covered including some poignant tunes, there was a whole spectrum which kept passers-by entertained.
Chairman of the Llanelli Veterans Robert Thomas said:
“Gurnos bounced the idea off me and I thought it would work. Clearly it has and the support from members of the public has been humbling. All are welcome back to The Veterans Lounge at The Conservative Club. There are six groups involved in that location from the Royal Signals, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, the Royal Welsh, the Comrades and the RAFA. The whole group of veterans use this location. It’s all encompassing.”
