One hour of darkness to protect our brilliant planet, we’ve signed up, will you???
WWF’s Earth Hour is a unique annual phenomenon that focuses the world’s attention on our amazing planet, and how we need to protect it.
At 8.30pm on 23 March, hundreds of millions of people will turn off their lights for one hour, on the same night, all across the world in a huge, symbolic show of support.
It’s always a spectacular occasion with an astonishing 152 countries and 6,950 towns and cities across the world taking part in 2012. In the UK alone, over 7.6 million people, 3,500 schools and 1,200 businesses and organisations got involved.
Welsh landmarks and buildings including the Senedd, National Library of Wales and Caernarfon Castle all went dark and communities and businesses celebrated with fire shows, twmpath dances and candlelit dinners. Many Welsh environmentally-minded businesses signed up and politicians and local authorities also lent their support.
Now is your chance to take action to protect our planet – not just for one hour, but every day. So for Earth Hour 2013, as we all switch off our lights, we’re asking you to show you back the switch from dirty fossil fuels and onto clean, green renewable energy.
How you can get involved in WWF’s Earth Hour 2013
1. Sign up to Earth Hour in advance – do it today at wwf.org.uk/earthhoursignup
2. Turn out your lights for an hour on the night – from 8:30PM on Saturday 23 March.
3. Do it in the dark! From candlelit dinners to origami – visit the Earth Hour website for inspiration of fun things to do on the night: wwf.org.uk/earthhour and try our online quiz at wwf.org.uk/energyquiz
