Dangerous driver……..
An Ammanford man who drove a Nissan Micra dangerously on an unclassified road between Rhiwfawr Village and Cwm Nant Lleici Quarry appeared at Llanelli Law Courts (August 3).
Tom Wilkinson, age 18 of Chapel Street, Upper Brynamman in Ammanford pleaded guilty to the allegation put before him.
Lisa Jones prosecuting told the court that police officers were out looking for a man and vehicle on an unrelated matter. They were on an unclassified road when they came head to head with Wilkinson. When he spotted the police he stopped his Nissan Micra and reversed throwing the vehicle into a J-turn before speeding off down a forestry road. Police were cautious as they didn’t want to damage their car as the road was filled with pot holes. The Micra was finally located in a side ditch abandoned.
The court heard that police officers recognised Wilkinson as the driver, he had two passengers with him who looked scared at the manner of his driving, they observed. Lisa Jones stated that Wilkinson had a poor driving record and had recently been disqualified from driving.
Laura Sherwood representing said that her client accepted speeding in excess and that as the road was forestry that there could have been animals there and a severe accident. She added that thankfully there had been no other cars about and that there was only one conviction against Wilkinson in adult court which was unrelated for a public order offence.
Chair of the Magistrates Bench Wyn David punished Wilkinson by way of a 12 month community order with a 4 month electronic monitoring curfew between the hours of 7am-7pm. A RAR requirement was also attached with a thinking skills programme of 20 days. He was disqualified from driving for a total of 24 months and in addition ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £85.
