Llanelli Theatre Group To Perform Shakespeare’s Macbeth
Llanelli based theatre group Boom Productions are to perform William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Macbeth in the Theatrau Sir Gar/Ffwrnes Theatre Llanelli on August 30 – September 1. The production of Shakespeare’s most prestigious play will be set in the South Wales Valleys in the 1980’s to the themes of the miners strikes. This is something different entirely with Boom Productions putting their own spin on this thought-provoking plot.
Director Wynne Seaborne told The West Wales Chronicle:
“A lot of people think of stuffy posh accents and people wearing ruffs and tights when they think of Shakespeare. It’s become very middle class and dry. We don’t think it is. We think it should be done in a way that people can understand and is accessible for all – and that goes for audiences and actors. We do all of our plays in a modern-ish dress setting and with themes and settings people can understand and relate to. We can’t wait to perform for the audience.”
Boom Productions is an amateur theatre group based in Llanelli. It has performers of all experiences – from those who may have been performing for twenty years or more, many are students as well as some who have recently finished drama school. Also there are those that have never stood on a stage before. Macbeth is the fifth anniversary production by Boom Productions and stars Roy Tilman as Macbeth, Fiona Gibbard as Lady Macbeth and Mark Rees as Macduff. Not to overly reveal but solider Macbeth receives a prophecy from three witches that lead him down a murderous path to power, which he has to cling on to with a bloody reign of tyranny.
Highly recommended viewing!
