Mobile phone technology has come a long way since the first call was made 40 years ago this month.

It was on 3 April 1973 that Motorola employee Martin Cooper made a call in New York on a Motorola DynaTAC – dubbed a “brick” due to its size and weight.

Four decades later even an average mobile can be used to take photos, play music and games, send emails, download maps, watch video clips, all as well as talking and texting.

How, I wonder did we manage without this small device that has changed our lives so much?

The same is true as far as communicating with God is concerned. Prayer is not confined to time and space, but is as simple as a child coming to his or her Father and knowing that he listens and cares.

Within the greatness and glory of the God who created the universe is a Father’s heart; that’s why Jesus taught us to pray ‘Our Father’.

There will be times when prayer may seem as much a mystery as trying to understand all the latest technology and yet through prayer we come close to our Father who loves us. Then, even when life is tough and the answers don’t seem to come we know we are in God’s will and he will be with us in all the changes of our lives.

Jesus said ‘Ask and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

The lines are open and the God who hears our prayers is always there.
