Detectives In Swansea Appealing To Homeowners To Be Vigilant After Bank Holiday Burglary

Detectives in Swansea are appealing to homeowners to be vigilant following a distraction burglary over the bank holiday weekend.

A 96-year-old woman had hundreds of pounds stolen from her home in the Bishopston area, after she was visited by a lone man who claimed to have carried out work in her garden.

The man engaged her in conversation and then asked to use the bathroom. He was shown to the bathroom before leaving.

The following day, the victim discovered a quantity of cash had been taken from her bedroom.
The man is described as white, tall and of slim build, and was wearing glasses.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area on Saturday (August 25th) or who has information which may assist with the investigation, to get in touch (reference 1800326547).

Detective Sergeant Richie Gray said:

“Distraction burglaries are particularly cruel crimes, with the perpetrators often preying upon society’s most vulnerable, duping them with well-rehearsed and convincing stories.

“I’d urge the local community not to be alarmed but to be on their guard, and to refuse entry to doorstep callers and people arriving uninvited to carry out home or garden maintenance.

“Patrols have been stepped up in the area in order to provide reassurance to residents and any concerns should be reported to officers out in the community, via 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
