On Thursday 8 November Parkinson’s UK Cymru is holding a free Taking Control day for people with Parkinson’s and their families at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre. A ‘Taking Control’ day is a one-off event designed to let people know about services and activities in their area (and try some of them out on the day) which can help people take control of the condition and live life to the full.
‘Whilst Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition affecting over 7,500 people in Wales there is much that can be done to maintain wellbeing and take control of the condition’ says Ana Palazon, Wales Director of Parkinson’s UK Cymru.
The Taking Control day will offer a wealth of activities for people to try out including different types of exercise, mindfulness, complementary therapies. There will be information sessions from the area’s Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist and other health professionals, information stands from organisations that support people locally and the Parkinson’s UK Cymru Local Adviser for the area will also be on hand.
‘The day promises to be both informative and enjoyable, so we hope as many people with Parkinson’s and their families come along’ says Val George, Chairperson of the Pembrokeshire Parkinson’s UK Branch.
Lunch will be provided on the day and if respite care or transport poses a difficulty which might prevent people from taking part please let us know.
If you would like to find out more and book your place at the event, please contact the Parkinson’s UK Cymru Wales office on 0344 225 3784 or wales@parkinsons.org.uk .
