A continued drive to tackle antisocial behaviour, drugs and crime in Neath town centre saw a further ten people temporarily banned from the area over the weekend.

Neath Neighbourhood Policing Team were joined by officers from the Special Constabulary and British Transport Police, as well as drugs detection dog Fletcher for the continuation of Operation Tesla on Friday night.

The operation targets trouble hotspots, including the railway station, which are regularly highlighted as areas of concern by local residents and business owners.

The team was also joined by Jeremy Miles AM, who was keen to see first-hand the work ongoing to ensure the area is both safe and welcoming.

As well as the 10 issued with Section 35 orders, which temporarily ban them from specific areas due to their continued antisocial behaviour, one man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at the train station, 11 people were stop-searched, two people received street warning for cannabis possession and one received a fix penalty for cannabis possession.

Sergeant John MCCumesky said:

“As I’ve previously stressed, Friday night’s crackdown was not a one-off – we are continuously working with a range of partners, including British Transport Police and the local authority, to target the issues that we are told by our communities matter most to them.

“Friday’s increased presence in the town was again welcomed and the public who were overwhelmingly supportive of the work we are doing. Many of those who stopped to speak to our officers provided us with some valuable information and intelligence – information which we can and do act upon in order to keep our communities safe.”

Residents are urged to attend their local PACT meetings to raise issues of concern.

Anyone with information about criminal activity should also contact 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
